Short answer
How much does a trend researcher earn in India?
There is no reliable public answer for the title itself. As of 6 November 2026 we found no salary aggregator page or government statistic for “trend researcher” in India with a stated sample and date. Search results for the phrase return pages about market researchers and general researchers instead. Trend research is usually done inside another job title, so the useful question is which title the job you are looking at resembles.
If it resembles social media analysis, Payscale India’s social media analyst page (26 profiles, updated 30 May 2025) is the closest public benchmark. If it resembles consumer or market research, Payscale India’s market researcher page showed an average base salary of ₹343,801 a year, with a base range of ₹141k to ₹817k, based on 17 profiles and last updated on 19 February 2025 (checked 6 November 2026). Both samples are small. Every figure, with what it measures and its caveats, is in the ledger below.
Which jobs are closest to trend research?
Trend research is a task more than a job title. In practice it sits inside several roles, and the doomscroller role described in the news — watching Reels, spotting trends, reporting them — resembles parts of each:
| Role | Overlap with trend research | Main difference |
|---|---|---|
| Social media analyst | Tracks performance and patterns across platforms | More focus on metrics for owned accounts |
| Social listening analyst | Monitors conversations and emerging topics | Uses paid listening tools and keyword queries; often text-heavy |
| Social media manager / executive | Uses trends to plan content | Responsible for publishing and community, not just research |
| Content researcher | Finds formats, audio and ideas for creators or shows | Output feeds directly into production |
| Market research analyst | Studies consumer behaviour and markets | Broader methods: surveys, data analysis, reports |
| PR / communications specialist | Monitors what is being said about a brand | Focus on reputation and media relations |
What do public salary sources say about these roles?
The table lists every figure on this page. We include a figure only if we fetched the public page ourselves, and we record the date, what the figure measures, the sample size where given, and a link. Figures on these pages change; if the linked page shows something different, the linked page is more current than ours.

Why include US government data at all?
Because it is one of the few sources with a transparent method, a stated reference period and a large sample. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook publishes median pay, typical entry-level education (a bachelor’s degree for both roles above) and an employment outlook for each occupation. It is useful for understanding how established research and communications occupations compare with each other — for example, market research analysts and PR specialists sit in a similar band in that data — not for estimating what an employer in Udaipur, Mumbai or Bengaluru will pay. We are not aware of an equivalent Indian government publication of median pay by occupation at this level of detail; if you know of one, please tell us via the corrections process.
How should you use benchmarks when you apply?
- Use them for orientation, not as a number to quote. They tell you roughly what range the market discusses for a related job, nothing more.
- Look for posted ranges in your city. A salary range printed on a real listing for a similar role is usually more relevant than any national average. See our methodology for how to collect them.
- Adjust for the track. An internship stipend is a different instrument from a salary; benchmarks for salaried roles do not apply directly.
- Turn the research into a range. Our expected-salary guide includes a worksheet for this.
How do people get into these roles?
Most of them are reachable from a starting point in social media or content work, with a portfolio of research samples. For a career route into trend research and social listening, see the trend researcher career guide (our sister guide, Social Media Careers). For what tends to move pay once you are in, see skills that affect pay.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a trend researcher earn in India?

No. The doomscroller role advertised by Influish has no published pay figure in any report we verified as of 6 November 2026. Salary figures for social media analysts or market researchers describe different jobs and should be used only as rough orientation for your own research.
Why are the Payscale samples so small?
Payscale figures come from people who choose to submit their pay. Niche titles attract few submissions: on 6 November 2026 the India social media analyst page rested on 26 profiles and the market researcher page on 17. Small samples can swing widely when a few new profiles are added, so treat them as indicators, not market rates.
