What to Write in “Expected Salary” on a Social Media Job Form

By Influish Editorial Team · Published · Last updated

Short answer

Write a researched range, or a single figure you would genuinely accept, labelled as monthly or annual and as a salary or stipend to match the track you chose. If you are a fresher, write 0 or “fresher” for current salary — never inflate it. The Influish doomscroller form reportedly asks for both current and expected salary, but because the company has not disclosed a budget, nobody can tell you the “right” number; you have to build your own.

What does the Influish form reportedly ask about pay?

According to several reports, the hiring form linked from the @gangsofstartup Instagram bio asks for name, phone number, address, a choice of full-time or internship, the position, and current and expected salary, along with a resume upload (NKTV) (Asianet News Hindi). We have described the form as reported; we do not link to it, and its questions may have changed. Use only links from the company’s official account, and avoid sharing documents with copies of the form posted elsewhere.

For a step-by-step account of how the reported application process works, see the doomscroller job explainer (our sister guide, Doomscroller Job Guide).

Why do employers ask for expected salary?

Mostly to screen. When an employer has a budget but has not published it, the expected-salary field lets them sort candidates quickly. It can also show whether you understand the role’s level. That has two implications: an unrealistically high figure may get you filtered out, and an unrealistically low one can anchor your eventual offer below what the employer was willing to pay.

How do you research a figure when no salary is published?

  1. Collect posted ranges. Search job portals for similar roles (social media executive, content researcher, trend analyst, social media intern) in the same city and note any listing that prints a range. Record the date and link.
  2. Check self-reported data carefully. Salary-sharing sites give a rough picture but are biased toward people who choose to share. Our trend researcher salary benchmarks show what that data looks like with sample sizes attached.
  3. Ask people. Peers, seniors from your college or online communities in your city often know local norms better than any database.
  4. Decide your floor. Work out the minimum you need — rent, travel, food, phone and data costs — and the lowest figure you would accept without resenting the job.
  5. Build a range. Start the range at or slightly above your floor and keep the top end within what your research supports.

How should freshers and interns answer?

If you chose internship

Frame your answer as a stipend expectation, and make clear it is monthly: for example, “Expected stipend: [your figure] per month (internship).” Mention that you are open to discussing it if the internship has a clear learning plan or a route to a full-time role — that signals flexibility without giving away your floor.

If you chose full-time

State whether your figure is monthly in-hand or annual CTC; the two can differ substantially. Unlabelled numbers cause confusion and can be read in the way least favourable to you. Example format: “Expected: [range] per annum CTC, negotiable based on role scope.”

Current salary when you have none

Write 0, “Not applicable (fresher)” or “Student”. If you earn from freelancing or a part-time job, state the amount and what it is (“freelance, approx. per month”). Never inflate current pay: it can be checked later and is a poor reason to lose an offer.

What if the form allows only a single number?

Use the figure you would accept comfortably, not your stretch target, and add context in any free-text field or cover note. If there is no space for context, pick the number you would be happy to see in a written offer.

What are common mistakes to avoid?

What happens after you submit?

Reports say shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you reach an interview or offer, the conversation moves from a form field to the full package. Prepare with our compensation questions and offer comparison worksheet, and read how trend research work is paid so you know which structure you are being offered.

Frequently asked questions

Can I write 'negotiable' in the expected salary field?

You can, and some employers accept it, but a blank or 'negotiable' answer may be filtered out if the form is screened against a budget. A researched range with a short note is usually safer than no answer.

What should a fresher write as current salary?

If you have no salaried job, write 0 or 'Not applicable — fresher' (or 'student'). If you have a part-time job, internship stipend or freelance income, state it honestly and label what it is.

Should I give a single number or a range?

A range anchored on a figure you would genuinely accept is common practice. Keep it narrow enough to be credible; a very wide range signals that you have not researched the role.

Is it risky to put my current salary on a form?

Current pay is personal information. Share it only with an employer you have verified through official channels, state it accurately, and remember you can explain context, such as a stipend that does not reflect your skills, in an interview.
